Fees, Referrals & Funding

  • $250 for a 50-minute session.

  • You may be eligible for Medicare rebates if you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) or Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan (EDP) and referral from your GP or psychiatrist.

The current Medicare rebate for sessions with a registered psychologist is $98.95 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year under a MHTP. However, therapy may extend beyond 10 sessions.

Please note there is an out-of-pocket fee for Medicare-rebated sessions, as bulk billing is not available.

  • If you have extras cover for psychology, you may be able to claim a rebate through your private health insurer. Rebate amounts vary depending on your level of cover and provider.

Please check directly with your insurer to confirm your eligibility and rebate amount.

Please note Medicare and private health rebates cannot be claimed for the same session.

  • You are welcome to access sessions privately without a referral. Private sessions are not eligible for Medicare rebates.

Sessions are available privately or with a Medicare rebate where eligible. Services are not currently available under third-party funding arrangements.

Starting
Therapy

  • Contact me via the enquiry form or email to arrange a free initial 15-minute phone call. This offers an opportunity to discuss what you are seeking support for, ask questions, and discuss whether the practice may be a good fit for your needs.

If we decide to proceed, we can arrange an initial appointment time.

  • Prior to your first session, you will be sent consent and intake forms to read and complete.

If you would like to access Medicare rebates and do not already have a referral, you will also need to see your GP to arrange a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral before your appointment.

  • The first few sessions are usually focused on developing a shared understanding of your experiences, current difficulties, history, relationships, and what may be contributing to distress over time.

This process also provides space for us to consider whether the therapeutic approach and relationship feel like a good fit for you.

  • If we decide I am the right person to help you, we will collaboratively agree on a treatment plan.

Therapy is collaborative and responsive to your individual needs. Together, we can discuss goals, frequency of sessions, and what may feel most helpful moving forward.

Depending on your needs, therapy may involve medium-long term psychotherapy or shorter-term focused work.

  • People may begin therapy with a general sense that something feels difficult, without knowing exactly how to describe it. Part of therapy involves developing a shared understanding of your experiences.

  • The first few sessions involve an initial, collaborative assessment. This includes exploring what brings you to therapy, your current concerns, and relevant aspects of your history, and deciding whether working together feels like a good fit. We will then discuss the most appropriate plan moving forward.

  • The initial sessions provide an opportunity to consider whether the therapeutic approach and relationship feel like a good fit for you.

A strong therapeutic relationship is an important part of therapy, and it is reasonable to take time to assess whether you feel comfortable, understood, and able to work together.

  • Weekly sessions are generally recommended. Regularity supports continuity and depth in the work.

Therapy may be more focused or longer-term depending on your needs. Some people seek therapy for a more specific concern and benefit from a focused period of work (10-20 sessions). Others come with difficulties that are longstanding, recurring, or complex, where longer-term psychotherapy may be more appropriate. We can discuss what may be most useful for you in the first few sessions.

I do not offer monthly or ad hoc sessions for new clients.

  • Yes. Sessions are available both in person in East Melbourne and via telehealth.

  • Psychologists are bound by confidentiality obligations. Information discussed in therapy remains confidential except in limited circumstances where there are concerns about safety or where disclosure is otherwise required by law.
